Different Types of Cookware

Cookware consists of several different types of pots and several different types of pans, most with its own specific purpose depending on what kind of food preparation and cooking you plan on doing. First we'll look at a couple of the most common cooking apparatus and the types of foods they are often used to prepare.

circulon pans

Sauce Pan

CIRCULON PANS

This is probably your most common and versatile cooking device. Sauce pans can be used for boiling, steaming and heating liquid-based foods like sauces and soups. If you don't have a rice-cooker, sauce pans serve as a good replacement for cooking rice.

Skillet

Also known as a frying pan, skillets are flat cooking devices that are light in weight with low ides which makes it easy to toss and turn the food with or without a spatula. Skillets are quite versatile - they can used to cook scrambled eggs as well as saute a variety of foods including meat, chicken, shrimp and vegetables.

Next we'll look at more specialized, less well known types of cookware that are usually associated with cooking a specific type of food.

Stockpots

Stockpots are the largest types of pots and range in size from six quarts to twenty quarts. They have an upright appearance as they are taller than they are wide. These are used when you need to simmer a large amount of liquid, as the tall shape helps prevent the liquid from boiling or foaming over the top. Stockpots are ideal for cooking stock, chili and thick soups.

Dutch Oven

A Dutch oven pot is round or oval in shape and large in size. The capacity ranges from two quarts to six quarts. They work great for pot roasts, pastas, stews and large batches of soup. Dutch ovens can be used on the stove top or in the oven.

Double Broiler

A double broiler consists of two pots - one sitting on top of the other. The bottom one is slightly larger in diameter so the top pot slightly rests inside. This apparatus is often used for cooking sauces that have a tendency to separate when exposed to direct heat. Sometimes the top pot will have perforations on its bottom so the double broiler can serve as a steamer as well.

Stir Fry Pan

A stir fry pan has a wide top that slopes down so that the bottom of the pan is smaller in diameter. This pan is used for cooking rapidly at high temperatures. You can stir the food so that only a portion of it is exposed to the hottest area at the bottom at any given time which helps keep it from burning.

Roasting Pan

A roasting pan is a large rectangular pan with low sides and a grill rack insert. This is used to roast chicken, tenderloins and beef. The idea behind a roasting pan is that the meat will sit above the juices so it will brown as opposed to stew, and the steam of the juice will make its way into the meat to help tenderize it and give it added flavor. Along with the juice on the bottom you can add vegetables such as peppers and onions, and when finished cooking you can pour the juice and vegetables over the meat and serve it in its juices so that it will further absorb the moisture.

Griddle

Griddles have a flat surface with hardly any sides, usually just a small lip to prevent run-off of liquid, fat or oils. These are to be operated over stove top burners and conduct heat quickly. Griddles are commonly used to cook breakfast meals like pancakes, French toast and fried eggs.

This is a quick overview of some of the different types of cookware - some of them common kitchen items and others more specialized. If you are just getting into cooking you can start with basic cookware like sauce pans and frying pans and then delve into more specialized items as you expand your cooking horizons.

Stainless Steel Cookware Versus Aluminum Pans

Stainless steel and aluminum are the most common metals used for making cookware sets and other utensils. According to an estimate, more than 50 % of all kitchenware and cookware manufactured now days have either stainless steel or aluminum, at least in minor quantities. A detailed comparison about cookware made from stainless steel and cookware made from aluminum is discussed below.

pansies

Comparison is best done in terms of factors as it is easy to understand. Some important aspects with respect to a buyer as discussed below. Instead of common points which are strengths of both the materials, the debate between aluminum and stainless cookware is generalized using factors in which either of them manages to pip the other.

PANS

Thermal Conductivity

Cooking and roasting is principally dependant on the principle of thermal conductivity. The thermal conductivity of aluminum is quite higher as compared to steel. For your information, copper betters aluminum in terms of thermal conductivity. This explains the fact that a lot of good cookware has a small coating of copper (between layers of steel) at the bottom end which meets the heat first.

Heat Distribution

steel on its own does not distribute heat evenly. Its only when certain other metals are added that there is a proper distribution of heat.

Reaction to Certain Foods

Aluminum is known to react with foods which have alkaline or acidic contents. That is the reason food items like some soups are not cooked in aluminum pans as aluminum particles may get trapped in your food. A standard alternative to this is the concept of hard anodized non-stick aluminum which is made through the process of electro-chemical anodizing which doesn't allow the base metal to breach into food items. The surface of stainless equipment may pit if exposed to salty environment for a long time. Even if stainless steel comprises of a variety of metals, there is no or negligible particles entering food.

Cost

If materials used to make cookware are compared, aluminum cookware will be less expensive against cookware made up of steel.

Apart from this, stainless steel is popularly used for making skillets, stock pots and other such cookware.

Stainless Steel Cookware Versus Aluminum Pans

Bookcookwarenow.com has a variety of cookware sets including skillets and roasters for you to choose from. They are known for their first rate service and excellent customer service.

How to Choose Your Perfect Cookware Set

If you're looking for a new kitchen cookware set, and can't make your mind up, or don't know where to start, then here's what you might want to consider.

circulon pans

1. It's important to know what you want from your cookware. Perhaps you want it to be lightweight, professional quality, or help you spend less time in the kitchen.

CIRCULON

2. Knowing what sort of meals and food you cook will help you to determine which pans you need. Will you really use a milk pan? Will having transparent lids be worth it? What about having pans that heat up quicker and so save time?

3. You'll want to make sure that the cookware set you choose has the right size pans for your family. There's no point in buying a set that has pans you'll never use because they are too big or too small for your family.

4. If you want to learn how to cook, you'll want a suitable cookware set. There's no point in just buying the cheapest set, as it might not offer the features and performance you need, and it could prevent you from enjoying your cooking. In addition, you might soon reach the limits of the lesser pan set, and so benefit from a better quality, or professional cookware set.

5. You might need your cookware set to be dishwasher safe so that you don't have to wash it by hand. You might want a non stick pan set, so that cleaning up after your meal is much easier and quicker too. You'll want to spend time with your family, rather than washing up in the kitchen.

6. Perhaps you want coloured cookware to go with or compliment your kitchen, and might have to come to a compromise as to whether the colour of your pans is more important than how well they cook.

7. Durability will definitely be an important factor. You won't want to have to replace your pans every year. Choosing a professional quality cookware set will also give you peace of mind, as well as fantastic performance.

8. A saucepan set is a good start, if you're not sure what sort or sizes of pans you're likely to use most. Perhaps you'll find that you'll want a couple of pans that are the same size, or that you'd be better with additional bigger or smaller pans.

9. There are reasons that the leading cookware brands have lasted so long. The performance, attention to detail, and durability are well renowned, and so they can often be the best choices of cookware set. You know that you won't go wrong, and that your pans will last and be just as good in many years time.

10. Value for money is important when buying anything, and cookware is no exception. Value for money doesn't mean buying the cheapest, and that buying cheap can be a false economy. It's much better to spend the money on the pans you need, and that will last, rather than making do with the wrong size pans, which you bought just because they were cheap.

Now you know what to look for, you'll be able to buy your perfect cookware set easily.

Are There Any Advantages Or Disadvantages to Using Copper Cookware

When you start to look at various different types of cookware for your kitchen there is no doubt you will at some stage come across copper cookware. There are so many manufacturers making quality cookware from this material that it is unavoidable no matter if you are shopping in your local store or looking at many of their cooking websites online.

You simply have to watch any of the TV programs that are demonstrating cooking and you will find that many of their professional and amateur chefs will use this type of cookware in the cooking process. Like everything else there are advantages and disadvantages to this particular type of product. You will find that manufactures will mix in other material with the copper like stainless steel, nickel and tin to help in the cooking process and for other reasons which we will explain in a moment.

CIRCULON

Copper is a fantastic material for heat conductivity and can help to cook food quickly and more evenly. So let's take a quick look at some of the features, benefits and possibly some of the disadvantages to.

Advantages

I'm sure you are well aware that many of the high-end manufacturers are making cookware made from copper. Some of them prefer using this simply because it uses malleable and ductile metal. It's also very functional compared to using other materials like stainless steel, aluminium and glass.

It can heat up very quickly and one of the best advantages is that it heats up evenly across the base to give them more even heat so that you are cooking food evenly. Because of this effectiveness on heat distribution you get less burn spots on the bottom compared to other types of materials.

It can easily be cleaned and maintaining it is not really that difficult. Have you ever been in a kitchen where you see copper cookware and they have that beautiful shiny look - personally I think this looks amazing and is something we all strive to do to help maintain the investment that purchasing copper cookware can be. You will also find that many people prefer copper that looks aged and scratched and to be honest this can also look at amazing depending on the type of kitchen is in. You really have to decide whether this is advantage or disadvantage or as my mother used to say a feature.

Disadvantages

There are many great and fantastic aspects of owning copper cookware. However, there are always some negativities expressed by amateur and professional cooks. One of these is it can easily get scratched and this is why you'll find many manufacturers mixing in other types of material to help reduce this. I suppose it depends on your perspective some people do not like a material that scratches easily and some people think that this is a feature.

As I'm sure you are also aware once you start to heat up copper color and appearance can change. Again I'm not sure if this is a disadvantage but it is definitely something that you should be aware of if you have not used them before. Some people particularly like saying that there beautiful copper color change from Orange, purple and dark pink.

You'll still find many top professionals using cookware that is made from copper (and mixed with other materials) you will find that many high-end cookware is made from this and you will sometimes find this reflected in the price because they offer quality and something that will last a long time. I think making a decision on purchasing copper cookware is an investment for your household and is definitely something that will last for many years to come.

Circulon Elite Cookware is the Elite

One of my passions is cooking and as a professional cook I find this set to be one of the best I have used, as well as home cooking.

circulon pans

The consideration why Circulon was my first choice are as fellow.

CIRCULON PANS

Price - It's a bit expensive, but, compared to other professional cookware (i.e. All Clad, Calphalon, Kitchen Aid...) it really does stand up to these more expensive cookware lines! I did find a great price for my 10 pc set at homeconnectiondirect.com so for me it was not an issue.

The distribution of heat is very impressive. Especially for cooking sauce your chances to burn food using this cookware is slim to none. Circulon does not lie when they say there is even heating..

Sleek stainless steel handles Elegantly designed cast stainless steel handles are riveted permanently to the pan or lid for maximum stability and durability. And with soft silicone Comfort Grips, they really do stay cool for a touch even when it's being used for a long time. No need for a potholder to lift the pan up.

The look steel rims encircle break-resistant glass lids, striking the perfect balance between sophistication and practicality. Allow you to watch foods cook without losing flavor and nutrients. The sleek style and look of these pots make them a great addition to your kitchen. My pots receive many compliments from friends and family who see them for the first time. The fun look makes it fun to use!

Cleanup is never a chore. The unique nonstick exterior means easy clean

Finally,

That is why."I give Circulon" a 5 star rating. You will not regret buying them.

Circulon "Infinite" Cookware!

I unquestionably love Circulon Infinite cookware! It does all the things that's warranted, and goes into the dishwasher too!

circulon pans

It is usable on several types of stove tops including the induction type cook tops, Circulon produces the best nonstick product on the market and this set is no exception Usually with every nonstick product, the cookware should be hand washed only. This is the first set that is dishwasher safe.

CIRCULON PANS

I am spoiled rotten by so many other Circulon pots and pans that I have used over the years. And again, the pots work great. My sister has the Elite line, my mom Circulon 2, and my grandma the Classic which have the silicone handles. No sticking, pretty easy to clean... excellent quality you would come to expect from Circulon cookware.

This is a "MUST HAVE" cookware set for your kitchen. It's a very high quality and durable set your food will cook evenly,When you Have this perfection in your cookware you will even use less butter and oil because the nonstick substance its extraordinarily fabulous! Which in the end results in healthy eating habits and a love for cooking once again.

Calphalon cookware can't hold a candle to Circulon cookware For example, I've had a couple Calphalon frying pans for more than a year now. I tend not to use them because their non-stick properties are lacking--so much so that making eggs "over-easy" is almost impossible.

"Infinite" cookware pieces have a flat bottom, which allows them to sit securely on my burners, and I never have a problem with food sticking to them. These pans have stainless steel bottoms for even heating can go into the oven up to 500 degrees and are dishwasher safe they clean up in just minutes if you wash them at the sink.

The Circulon cookware is the best hands down for induction cook tops. It heats remarkably even all across the bottom. Well made set of pot and pans for every kitchen need. Well engineered handles stay cool and food cooks evenly Other induction cookware have hot spots

The Circulon Infinite cookware is Very well built and I personally my self have found that Amazon has the best prices for this set I looked at a lot of sets and read a lot of evaluations and these ranked the best. They can go in the oven up to 500 degree's I checked them out in person and spent some time at local retail stores handing the cookware and seeing if they would match the price (they didn't).

I obtained a set from Amazon and had my product within two days with their standard shipping. After inspecting my purchase after delivery I found that one of the pots had been damaged during shipping and returned the set with Amazon's painless return system and re-ordered with out any hassles or excuses.

I would have to agree with so many other people about these pot and pans Except a couple of faults that I have found in this product although its nothing major its just that they do take a little longer than a lot of other pans to heat up but they do heat evenly and cook much better than other pans that have so many hot spots you just lose desire to cook with the other so called brands.

Circulon "Infinite" Cookware!

One other fault that I found Circulon cookware is the metal handles tend to get hot closer to the actual pan however I believe that I was using too high of heat that was too close to the handle and would be easily resolved by Altering the temp accordingly Also one other thing that I have found is that the mix sizes are not ideal for every cooking need, so I bought a 1-qt pot and a 4-qt pot separately. That gave me a complete set that will do everything I need to do with out any problems at all.
